Mission

The purpose of Institutional Intelligence is to transform organisational knowledge into organisational capability.

Origins

The Institutional Intelligence Framework grew from work examining organisational knowledge, systems change and the experience held by long-serving employees in UK specialist distribution. These observations prompted a broader research question: how can organisations preserve useful knowledge and make it available to people who need it? The framework is a developing synthesis, informed by research on organisational memory, organisational learning, knowledge management and tacit knowledge.

Acknowledgements and Adjacent Work

None of the underlying observations here is new, and the framework's credibility depends on saying so plainly. Institutional Intelligence builds upon decades of research in organisational learning, organisational memory, knowledge management and tacit knowledge. The term "institutional intelligence" also appears in adjacent work, product platforms and academic writing with related concerns. None defines the discipline set out here; we acknowledge that adjacent literature rather than claiming to have invented every underlying idea. The framework builds on that established literature. Its definitions, models and proposed mechanisms remain open to critique, evidence and revision.
