Mission

The purpose of Institutional Intelligence is to transform organisational knowledge into organisational capability.

Origins

The Institutional Intelligence Framework was synthesised during a multi-year transformation engagement in UK specialist distribution, where thirty years of systems evolution, and a structured programme of interviews capturing the experiential memory of the people who lived it, revealed a pattern larger than any single company: organisations everywhere have finished connecting their systems and have not yet begun connecting their knowledge. The framework names that gap, and the discipline of closing it.

Acknowledgements and Adjacent Work

None of the underlying observations here is new, and the framework's credibility depends on saying so plainly. Institutional Intelligence builds upon decades of research in organisational learning, organisational memory, knowledge management and tacit knowledge. The term "institutional intelligence" also appears in adjacent work, product platforms and academic writing with related concerns. None defines the discipline set out here; we acknowledge that adjacent literature rather than claiming to have invented every underlying idea. The concepts are inherited. The synthesis, and the mechanism, are the contribution.
